My First Love That Remained: An Honest Letter to God

  • February 24, 2019

2 min read

I was Your thought before I was an embryo. I have been Your love, from the day I was conceived. You held me in Your marvelous hands and formed me into Earth’s child. You have been a friend, a father, a comforter. You’ve shown me what unconditional love is; so much so, that I hope that one day I can love even a fraction of the way You love me.

I write to You because I was Yours before I could be mine. I sometimes forget of Your love; I lose track of what I mean to You, and of my worth. I fail You often, and daily, and will fail You countless times to come. Yet, You still watch over me when I sleep and care for me when I fall.

You listen to my everyday complaints, insecurities and fears, with comfort and mercy. You gave me the gift of writing, so how could I not write for You? I think of my life through Your eyes and want so desperately to see the jewels that You see. I will never understand the vastness of Your love; nor will I ever be deserving of the magnitude of Your grace.

You have taken me in when the world turned dark. You nursed my wounds even when they were caused by my own carelessness; even my mistakes You took and turned into gold. People have walked in, and many have left too. I have seen man’s betrayal to his friends, and the naivety of my own heart. Life showed me rejection at a young age, but also favour from my youth.

You remained through it all: despite my rebellion, my failures, my character flaws. Seeking Your heart has been my life’s greatest adventure. There is no fault in You and what you do. Every pain, You used to bring joy. You have no hidden agendas, no ill-intent.
You only seek to benefit me.

Should I lose my way for the years that lie ahead, You will surely be there waiting for me to come home. There is no evil in You, for You are the God of light and love.

You are Love.

And so, Love can only mean You will always protect.

So, this is why I write a letter to You: my first love that always remained.

I’m a mid-twenty-something female writer of fiction and prose. Writing gets me through my existential crisis of trying to balance the art of being a lawyer by day but writer by passion. I want to be known for my heart, so my work is influenced by three things: God, Love & Travel. Welcome to my world- I hope you can grow to love it as well.

Christianity without the filters...

Unfiltered Christianity is for all of those people who are tired of blind religion and all the fakeness. It is for those people who want to live a full, honest and freedom filled life in God. It isn’t a platform to argue theology, there are many platforms and churches for that, but it’s a platform that will provide a space for people to be real, vulnerable and to express themselves- flaws and all.
