When we think of the word “Christianity” most of us think about the good stuff right? The Bible and other Christian material, eating and living healthy or going to church. We expect to see this always happy bunch of people without a care in the world right?
Then, what do you think about when you think of the opposite of Christianity? Alcohol, sex, cigarettes maybe? These are the people we expect to be bad- the rebels, the ratchet, the violent? Right?
Well, maybe it’s just me, but I’ve had a totally different experience with Christianity. Yes, it does involve reading God’s Word and living a peaceful and happy life but it is so much more. The greatest revelation for me was the fact that we all start at the same place- extremely flawed and so very far from our original standard. I mean this is biblical. The bible says:
“For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.”- Romans 3:23
This means that we are all a miss. Some of us are just working through the ruble a lot faster than others and even so, it is God’s grace that gives us the ability in the first place.
Christianity is an everyday journey. It is the rising and the falling and the rising again. Some days you’re doing all right and some days you are doing terribly.
I think Christianity isn’t entirely about how you dress, what you eat, drink or even what the church folk say (Isaiah 29:13 and Matthew 15:7-20). Yes, these do play a role in the grand sceheme of things but there’s more. Christianity is more about how you become more and more like Jesus each and every day- flaws and all. It is the process of becoming a better, holier human being- just like how God intended you to be.
It is a personal journey but one that affects the world around you.
I created Unfiltered Christianity to document this journey. I want this platform to be to cover the “real life” of Christianity. The ups and downs, the people and their experiences, the unpopular issues- all this without adding any filters. In the end, the goal is to help you find God for yourself instead of having a God fed to you by the church or your family or your friends. We want to show anyone who is doing their best to live right that they are not alone and that the struggle is real and that we struggle together.
